PurseBlog News: NYC to FLL

Categories:Other Brands

There’s been a big move at PurseBlog that I’m happy to share with you all: After four years full time in New York City, Vlad and I have decided to head back to Florida. South Florida is where we lived before our move to NYC and where I spent most of my years growing up. I never thought I’d call NYC home, but it became my home over time, and leaving it is so bittersweet. So much so, in fact, that we aren’t leaving for good. We’re keeping our office in NYC, our team in NYC, and Vladi and I will be splitting our time between Florida and NYC.

The biggest change you will see is more photos featuring tropical locations (I’m actually serious–that’s the major difference!), and of course we will be featuring the bags of South Florida alongside those of NYC and wherever else our travels take us. We are excited to start this journey of our life, combining sand and skyscrapers, which are two things that we totally adore. Vlad lives for the fast pace of city life, and I find the beaches of South Florida to be perfect to balance out the hustle and bustle.

Our move has been much more work than anticipated (they always are), that’s why you’ve seen a bit less of me posting. I’ve found that all of my ideas for our new home take so much time, and nothing is ever done when you think it will be. I’m trying to get our new home ready for us in Florida, and Vlad is in NYC right now for Fashion Week.

We’re just about to hit our ten year anniversary for PurseBlog, and we feel so incredibly lucky to have you along for the ride!

PurseBlog Asks: What Brands Do You Love But Not Own?

About a month ago, you helped me decide on my new pretty pink Givenchy bag. It is my first Givenchy bag, and while my collection of bags is fairly sizable, I recognize that there are brands I’m lacking. It isn’t always because of want, but I guess I just never get to the place of pulling the trigger and find other brands that I like.

I own quite a few Celine bags, actually I kind of went on a spree and seemed to keep buying Celine for two years. Then I moved onto Gucci and have added quite a few Gucci bags to my collection in the past year. But with my new Givenchy, I realized there are other brands I don’t own at all or haven’t purchased in a long time.

I adore Dior bags, the Lady Dior is one of the most stunning classic bags. My lifestyle is a bit more laid back and that is probably why I haven’t taken the Dior plunge, but I do see it in my near future.

Another brand is Fendi. You would think with how much I talk about Fendi bags I’d have a closet filled with 2Jours and 3Jours. I do have a few monster charms, including Karlito, but the last Fendi bag I bought was the Spy. Yep, you read that right and that is so long ago.

What about Goyard? We rarely cover Goyard because finding information is so hard. The brand is secretive but the house has a long history and many are fanatics. I do love their classic tote, it would be a great addition to my collection, that’s for sure.

And another major brand I don’t seem to add to my closet, Louis Vuitton. I am drawn toward the soft leather from the brand, but the prices are rather high and I tend to get sticker shock from the Louis Vuitton bags I love.

Are there brands you love but don’t own?

PurseBlog Asks: Has Rain or Snow Ever Ruined Your Bag?

Categories:Other Brands

Givenchy Antigona in the RainOver the weekend, there was quite the rainstorm as I headed out for a pedicure. I snatched up my Givenchy Antigona, as that was the bag I’ve been using the previous few days, and quickly headed into the car. I had to park about 50 feet from the nail salon, so I needed to make a run for it in the rain with my bag. I walked into the salon, selected my polish, and grabbed my seat. I sat my bag down, looked at it and felt that queasy feeling instantly–the rain left blue marks all over my light pink Givenchy Antigona.

I wiped the bag down and assumed since it is a semi-glazed goatskin, it should do fine in the rain; it’s not like I dropped it in a puddle. I kept staring at the spots all over my bag, hoping they would fade. I started to worry; what will I do if they’re permanent? Is my bag ruined? The good news: about 30 minutes later, my bag was back to normal.

As you’d imagine, I own plenty of bags that I’ve had in the rain or snow with me, and I’ve never had this happen before. I treat my bags really well, but I don’t want to be someone that is so gentle with my bags that I spend more time thinking about how to keep them pristine than I spend just using them.

Givenchy Antigona in the Rain 1

I was lucky the rain didn’t leave a permanent mark on my bag, but I was surprised about the marks showed up in the first place. The photos I took are from my iPhone, so they aren’t great, but after I freaked out about the marks, I knew I should take a picture. The incredibly weird thing about my pink Antigona is when the rain hit the bag, a splotchy, light blue color started to show through, and it spread like a disease all over. I’m guessing the blue color issue was about the original dye used on the bag; obviously, there isn’t a pale pink goat running around out there (although that would be cute), but I’ve still never seen anything like it. My bag recovered fine, but I was shocked, and it got me thinking: have any of you had a bag get ruined by rain or snow?
